Isidoro Valc\u00e1rcel Medina (Murcia, 1937) is a leading figure in conceptual art in Spain. He has received the highest awards granted for his artistic work, such as the National Award for Plastic Arts in 2007 and the Vel\u00e1zquez Award in 2015.<\/p>\n
The exhibition presented by IVAM in its Gallery 3 offers the opportunity to explore the artist\u2019s most recent work. The show presents s series of 40 drawings entitled\u00a0The Movement of the Idea<\/em>, in which Valc\u00e1rcel Medina investigates perceptual ambiguity and interpretative multiplicity as central themes of his approach. The images are duplicated, overlapped, and contrasted, complemented by brief texts in which the artist, with irony, points out the boundary between his intention and the viewer\u2019s interpretation.<\/p>\n Alongside the exhibition, an editorial project is introduced that thoroughly documents the artist\u2019s work from his early years in the 1960s, while also providing a critical reflection on his more recent trajectory.<\/p>\n The exhibition is curated by Jos\u00e9 D\u00edaz Cuy\u00e1s, Professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory at the University of La Laguna, Coordinator of the research group TURICOM:\u00a0La experiencia tur\u00edstica: Imagen, Cuerpo y Muerte en la cultura del ocio<\/em>, and of the research project\u00a0La modernidad parad\u00f3jica: experiencia art\u00edstica y tur\u00edstica en la Espa\u00f1a desarrollista (1959-1975)<\/em>. Since the 1980s, he has been giving lectures and publishing articles in specialized magazines.<\/p>\n He was the director of\u00a0Acto eds<\/em>; his recent publications include \u00abAlgunas ideas sueltas sobre viajes, rutas y desv\u00edos\u00bb,\u00a0Muntadas.\u00a0<\/em>Ejercicios sobre memorias pasadas y presentes<\/em>, Ateneo de Manila and CAAC of Seville, 2022; and\u00a0Arte, consume y transgresi\u00f3n can\u00edbal: a prop\u00f3sito de Yves Klein, Tennessee Williams y el cine exploitation<\/em>, in\u00a0Encuentros salvajes: arte, consumo y turismo can\u00edbal<\/em>, Concreta, 2022.
